As a part of Swarnim Vijay Varsh celebrations, the Aizawl Battalion under the aegis of Headquarter 23 Sector Assam Rifles and Headquarter IGAR (East) organized a Tree Plantation drive at The Assam Rifles Mizoram Range on Monday.

The “Swarnim Vijay Varsh” is a nation wide phenomenon which started from 16 Dec 2020 and will end in 16 Dec 2021 to mark the 50 year anniversary of Indian victory in 1971 Indo – Pakistan War. 

Sapling Plantation is the first of many events planned to be organized at Aizawl by Assam Rifles to commemorate the occasion. In this drive, a total of 150 saplings including variety of fruit bearing plants were planted by Brigadier Digvijay Singh, SM, Commander, 23 Sector AR, Colonel Rajesh Kumar Nayak, Commandant Aizawl Battalion and other dignitaries.

The event witnessed a participation of Ex Servicemen, School Children and all ranks of the Assam Rifles. Pu TJ Lalnuntluanga, Hon’ble Forest Minister, Govt of Mizoram graced the occasion as chief guest and marked the beginning of celebrations at Aizawl by planting a sapling.
