On 20 August 2021, Assam Police entered Zophai, Bairabi and snatched materials for the ongoing bridge construction. Kolasib DC Dr. H. Lalthangliana made a request to Hailakandi DC to take necessary measures regarding the matter. A case against theft of construction materials has been filed against the Assam Police at Bairabi Police Station.
Assam Police entered Mizoram territory at Zophai, Bairabi at around 12 noon on 20 August, 2021. They arrived at the site where an ongoing bridge construction has taken place to connect the main road with the paddy field owned by former Chief Minister of Mizoram, Ch. Chhunga.
According to he letter sent by by Kolasib DC to Hailakandi DC, Assam Police entered Mizoram territory and created problem for the workers on the construction site and stole some construction materials including pieces of iron rod. Witnesses reported that the snatched construction materials were loaded in a mini truck driven by the Assam Police. The DC expressed his disappoiment stating that government servants committing an act that can be interpreted as theft towards government property is a serious matter.
