Following the appeal of the Central Young Mizo Association, Mizoram government has constructed two check gates in Sihhmui and Sailiamkawn, an outpost in Serchhip to keep a check on the illegal smuggling of Arecanut from Myanmar. The areca nut smuggling is still an ongoing heated issue since last December after which tensions flared up with the sudden transfer of Champhai DC, Maria CT Zuali.
The newly established Police check gate in Sihhmui, located prior to Sairang Zero Point was inspected by leaders of the Central Young Mizo Association and Mizoram Police last Tuesday evening. Sairang Police have started their patrol last Tuesday.
Among the official visitors of Sihhmui check gate, Mr. R . Lalngheta, President of the Central Young Mizo Association thanked the Government for their immediate action and setting up a reliable check gate for intercepting the illegal smuggling.
Prof. R. Lalnuntluanga,Secretary of Central Young Mizo Association also added his gratitude saying “ YMA stands with the actions carried upon by the Mizoram Police and would continue to take measure against this illegal merchandising .”
Mr. Lalbiakthanga Khiangte,DIG (Hqtr) stated the guidelines by saying that since Sairang Police Station was implemented to guard , more workers were appointed. He also added that they are planning to rebuild the check gates with more refined arms.
On their previous discussion with the Chief Minister Mr. Zoramthanga on 19th January ,2022, the leaders of the Central Young Mizo Association requested for a proper check gate . Later, on February 4th, 2022, the Home Minister Mr. Lalchamliana along with other police commanders took immediate measures to set up the check gate.
