Sialsir, a village in Serchhip District in Mizoram, was awarded the National Water Award by the President of India yesterday. The village won the Best Panchayat Village in the NorthEast region. The award was accepted by Ms. Nazuk Kumar, IAS and Deputy Commissioner of Serchhip and Mr. Vanlalrema, President of Village Council, Sialsir from the President of India. 

The 3rd National Water Award ceremony was held at the Plenary Hall, Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Sh. Ram Nath Kovind, Hon’ble President of India was the Chief Guest at the inaugural ceremony of the award distribution and felicitated winners of the 3rd National Water Award. 

The ceremony was attended by Gajendra Singh, Minister of Jal Shakti, Prahlad Singh Patel, Minister of State (Food Processing Industries), Bishweswar Tudu, Minister of State (Tribal Affairs) and other dignitaries. 

 

The National Water Award was launched by the Jal Shakti Ministry in 2018 to recognise and motivate individuals and organisations doing exemplary work in the field of water resources management. On 2019, Lengkhua, a village from Serchip district was awarded the winner on this category. Overall 57 awards have been announced in 11 categories. These include: Best State, Best District, Best Village Panchayat, Best Urban Local Body, Best Media (Print & Electronic), Best School, Best Institution/RWA/Religious organization for Campus usage, Best Industry, Best NGO, Best Water User Association, and Best Industry for CSR Activity.
