Junta's military forces have been rampaging through Chin State, torching civilian homes and setting fire to towns and villages since early October.

Yesterday, the military troop set fire to the town of Thantlang, a town of great historical importance for the Mizo community and the same town where Junta's military suffered a shocking defeat from the resistance forces of CNA few weeks back.

In yesterday's arson attack, more than 100 homes were burnt to the ground including the Presbyterian Church and the pastor's quarters. The army targeted public places like banks, commercial areas, markets and religious places.

Thantlang is a town in Chin State which has a deep historical significance for the Mizo people. It was an important settlement of the Mizo forefathers for many years during the westward migration of the Mizo from Myanmar. Even in the present day, almost all the residents are part of the Mizo ethnic community and many still maintain strong ties with relatives and friends in Mizoram.

The military has already created havoc in Thantlang on 18 September where they destroyed 19 houses. Between 13 and 25 October, Junta's soldiers torched 42 houses and one church in nearby Falam township, in parts of Talang Ron and Tal villages, and the entire village of Rialti. Meanwhile, Mizoram continues to lend shelter and support to the thousands of refugees who have crossed the border. Goods and financial donations are pouring in everyday through initiatives of NGOs, church organizations and other groups.
