One of the most prolific figure in Mizo literature, Lalthlamuong Kevom, popularly known as L. Kevom died this morning at Max Super Speciality Hospital, New Delhi. 

 

L.Keivom had an outstanding career both as a political diplomat and a writer of the finest quality. He built his career from a simple village school teacher in Manipur to become the first Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer from Manipur in 1970. During his service, he was posted in Saudi Arabia, Italy, Burma and Africa. 

His contribution to literature, both as a writer and a translator, is noteworthy. His series of books 'Zoram Khawvel' 1-8 still remains one of the best selling political writings in Mizo literature. Zoram Khawvel-1 was selected as the MAL Book of the Year. Keivom also translated the English Bible and Rabindranath Tagore's Gitanjali into Hmar language. 

After his retirement, he resided with hia family in New Delhi. In June 2021, his health condition started deteriorating after which he was diagnosed with pneumonia. After months of hospitalization, L. Keivom passed away on the morning of 28.11.2021. He will forever be remembered as one of the finest diplomats and an outstanding writer.
