International Museum Day was celebrated today by  Mizoram State Museum, Art and Culture Department . Mrs Carol Vanlmalsawmdawngkimi, Joint Director, Art and Culture Department inaugurated the celebration of this day. Thingsiri Cultural Club, Govt T. Romana College and other institutions were invited to participate in the event. Different Mizo traditional instruments were put out for display and  instructions and teachings on cultural artifacts were given along with entertaining performances. 

      In a short speech, Mrs. Carol Vanlamalsawmdawngkimi says, “ For the unity of our community, we must constantly assert our ethnic identity, and for that purpose, the Museum can be of great assistance." During  2019-2020, Mizoram State Museum has a total number of 19971 visitors which included 8 VIP’s and 79 foreign visitors from around the world. 

      The Inter-National Council of Museum(ICOM)  declares 18th May, 2019 as International Museum Day for museums around the world to celebrate this day together. The theme for this year’s International Museum Day worldwide is “The Power of Museum” . According to Ministry of Culture, Government of India , a week long celebration for International Museum Day was organized in commemoration of the 75 years of India’s Independence (Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav)  and Mizoram State Museum will be opened till 20th May, 2022 with free of entrance.
