Mizo activist, Vanramchhuangi, more popularly known as Ruatfela Nu, has submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga to stop the illegal smuggling of areca nuts in Mizoram from Myanmar. 

Vanramchhuangi addressed journalists at the Aizawl Press Club yesterday where she stated that she reported the different measures she has taken against the smuggling business. She has also met Chief Minister Zoramthanga regarding the matter and discussed at length about the several damages and ill effects brought about the smuggling of areca nuts. 

The activist stated that she would first wait on the measures taken by the state government. State officials are said to have an emergency meeting regarding the matter today. She also reported that the smuggling business has greatly affected the economic flow in Champhai district and proves to be extremely hazardous for the environment and the social well being of the people. It has also caused over pricing of goods and land in the district. The smuggling of areca nuts has been a problematic case for officials and authorities in Champhai district for the past few years.
