President Ram Nath Kovind graced the 16th Convocation of Mizoram University today. The President arrived at Lengpui Airport where he was received by state Home Minister Lalchamliana and senior state officials. He will leave for Delhi at 10.45 AM on Friday. This is the President's second visit to the state after he assumed office in July 2017.

In his previous visit in November 2017, he had addressed a special session of the state assembly.

 

"With the second highest literacy levels in the country, Mizoram is a truly modern state ready to take off for higher achievements," said the President at the Convocation function today. He further added that according to progress on Goal - 4 of UN Sustainable Development Goals which pertains to providing Quality Education, NITI Aayog’s SDG India Index 2020-21 shows that Mizoram with a score of 60 performed better than the national average of 57.

 

Mizoram University is a central university under the University Grants Commission, established on 2 July 2001, by the Mizoram University Act (2000) of the Parliament of India.

In the Impact World Rankings-2022, Mizoram University secured Overall World Ranking of 801-1000;  and 43rd rank among Indian Universities, and is only University in North East region to be placed in the THE IMPACT Rankings-2022.

In thia year's Convocation, 68 scholars were awarded with Ph.D degree and 38 Gold Medalists from different subjects were awarded with certificates and medals.
