Vanramchhuangi, a social activist from Mizoram has filed a Public Interest Litigation(PIL) case against the illegal smuggling of Areca nut at the Gauhati High Court, Aizawl Bench. 

     The PIL case includes a request towards the Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) to pursue an investigation of smugglers crossing borders and practicing illegal business while evading taxes and to eradicate the problems faced by Areca nut farmers due to this illegal smuggling of Areca nut.

     Vanramchhuangi explained to Zozam Times " I have filed an FIR to Champhai Police Station regarding the circulation of the illegal business within the border which has affected the economic situation of the state ,it got rejected. A memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister which did not bear any result. So, I have decided to file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL).“ 

    She stated that a memorandum towards the Prime Minister on accounts of the illegal smuggling of Areca nut proves to be a success . She believes that her memorandum has resulted the Assam Government to take actions in battling against the illegal smuggling. 

    Vanramchhuangi explained in her memorandum towards the Chief Minister saying that “ I was delighted at the first moment, a high level meeting was called . But,it was heartbreaking to see that previously, smugglers would search for secret passages. This time, they were sent to a legalized route and mobilized freely at the same night I submit the memorandum” .
