As Covid19 cases continue to rise throughout the country, Mizoram is also seeing a gradual rise in numbers. 38 passengers were tested positive for Covid19 at Lengpui Airport. 6 planes landed at the airport yesterday with a total of 558 passengers out of which swab samples were tested from 398 passengers.

Following the recommendations of the State Level Expert Team on Covid-19 Management, the SOP for entry point screening in Mizoram was revised where Vaccination Certificates are no longer valid for entering the state. Only passengers with negative RT-PCR/TrueNat/ CBNAAT test Report for Covid-19 issued by a recognised laboratory within 72 hours prior to the time of entry have been exempted from the swab sample test.

Though the Omicron variant has not been officially declared as detected in Mizoram, other states in the North East have reported the new variant. Meghalaya detected its first five cases of the Omicron variant yesterday, and Assam on Wednesday reported its first Omicron case after a Saudi Arabia returnee tested positive for the new coronavirus variant. However, Assam and Meghalaya have ruled out lockdown as a step to check the surge in COVID-19 cases. Mizoram's Health Minister Dr. R. Lalthangliana also stated that the state has no intention of an immediate lockdown.
