The Government of Mizoram today announced the transfer and posting order of 12 Mizoram Civil Service officers to different departments. The Deputy Commissioner of Champhai, Maria CT Zuali has been transferred to the post of Additional Secretary FCS & CA/ Planning & Prog. Implementation. James Lalrinchhana will occupy the office of the Deputy Commissioner as Champhai DC. Meanwhile, Kolasib Deputy Commissioner Dr. H. Lalthangliana has been transferred to the post of Director, School and Education Department and John LT Sanga has been appointed as the new Deputy Commissioner, Kolasib. 

The new transfer and posting order immediately became a controversial topic among the public on account of the recent news about Maria CT Zuali’s campaign against smuggling and illegal business in Champhai District and the Indo- Myanmar border. Following the incident on 18th December 2021, an FIR was filed against Champhai DC by Lalhruaitluangi, a business women dealing with Areca nuts business in the region. The DC has made several headlines since the past year regarding her campaign against illegal businesses in and around the district. A few days ago, a group of vehicle owners and trade unions in Champhai Disctrict have sent an official letter to the Chief Minister, demanding the transfer of Maria CT Zuali from the office of Deputy Commissioner of Champhai District. These recent controversies surrounding the areca nut business in Champhai District and measures and restrictions taken by the DC have made news headlines and public talk.

According to reports, Champhai District NGOs Office Bearers Emergency Meeting has been scheduled 14 January 2022 to discuss the transfer of Champhai DC.
