According to the circular issued by the Directorate of School Education,  Myanmar refugees will be given admission in the schools in Mizoram.

The circular was sent  to all District Education Officers and Sub Divisional Educational Officers, requesting schools to arrange for “admission to migrant/refugee children” in their respective jurisdictions so that they can “continue their schooling.”

The decision was based in Chapter 2(4) of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 (RTE Act 2009). The circular, signed by James Lalrinchhana the Director of School Education, stated that "children aged between 6 to 14 yrs belonging to disadvantaged communities have the right to be admitted to school in a class appropriate to his or her age for completing elementary education."

Since the military coup in Mynamar in the beginning of the year, more than 9000 refugees have fled to Mizoram. Champhai district is currently providing shelter to rhe largest group, consisting of more than 4000 refugees. Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram, has 1622 refugees as per official records.
